Google Cloud Overview of the MPC Service for Institutional Bitcoin Custody

While Google Cloud held a seminar in New York focusing on digital asset security, it revealed details of its MPC preview service for institutional Bitcoin custody.

Google's cloud computing division is advancing a service that allows financial institutions to jointly authorize and sign cryptocurrency transactions without allowing any single party to control the complete private keys.

In documents updated on Monday, Google Cloud provided a detailed introduction to its Multi-Party Computing (MPC) service, positioning this preview product for institutional Bitcoin custody. This service is currently still in the preview phase, which means that Google offers it as it is now, and the support available may be limited.

This document update precedes Google Cloud's MPC seminar held in New York on Wednesday. According to the event description, this event will "exclusively unveil Google's cutting-edge MPC products and research projects," with speakers coming from financial institutions including Morgan Stanley, OKX, Citibank, and Wells Fargo.

Google Cloud's announcement regarding the launch of this service can be traced back to August 2026. On October 1st, Google expanded its Bitcoin security rules to assess transaction amounts, identify types of target addresses, and detect change outputs.

This Alphabet subsidiary has also previously explored related technologies through Confidential Space. According to a blog post from June, Confidential Space is a cloud environment designed to support secure multi-party computing and data sharing.

Cointelegraph has contacted Google Cloud as well as Rich Widmann, the Director of Google's Digital Assets Strategy, to further confirm the availability and launch timeline of this service.
