After years of resistance, Apple has today launched its first MacBook Pro equipped with a touch screen, with a starting price of $2,899. This release comes nearly 10 years after the company's first attempt to incorporate touch functionality into laptops. Back then, Apple introduced Touch Bar on the MacBook Pro, only to later remove it.

This new MacBook Pro more fully embraces touchscreen design, offering two new PROLED XDR screen sizes of 14 inches and 16 inches. The device can be equipped with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, supporting up to 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage. The peak brightness of the display is HDR and SDR nits, with a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1.

The 14-inch touchscreen model MacBook Pro has a starting price of $2,899, while the 16-inch version starts at $3,399.

To make this new MacBook easier to use, Apple has designed a hinge that stabilizes the display screen when the user touches it. This also helps to stabilize the camera during video calls when the user is viewing the screen content while operating it at the same time.

In addition, this screen will feature a perforated design similar to Dynamic Island, rather than the notch commonly used on most current MacBook devices.

This new touchscreen MacBook marks one of the two major product releases by the new CEO John Turnus; he also launched the company's first foldable screen phone iPhone Duo in September.

Following the launch of the new standard version MacBook Pro yesterday, this latest release also features the M6 chip and is available in two sizes, with a starting price of $1,999.

Anthropic research finds that AI subtly influences expert decision-making
The alignment team of Anthropic found that among 50 professional analysts making four types of analytical decisions, 86% of them followed the preferences secretly set by their AI agents, which were determined by flipping a coin, whereas under random circumstances, this proportion was expected to be around 50%. A survey of 48 analysts conducted afterwards revealed that 77% of them repeated the arguments of the agents, sometimes almost word for word; only 15% mentioned the agents, and none of them doubted that their preferences were being artificially manipulated.
