Did Trump lose the midterms?
Donald Trump himself did not appear on the ballots on Tuesday, but the 2026 midterms still dealt a significant blow to his party.
According to reports from the British Broadcasting Corporation ( BBC ), the Democratic Party is expected to win control of the U.S. House of Representatives, after achieving a reversal of seats in areas that have long been considered safe for the Republican Party.
Out of the 435 seats in the House of Representatives, voting has been completed for 247 of them, with the Democratic Party leading with 152 seats and the Republican Party having 95 seats.
The affiliation of the Senate is still undecided. However, with 23 out of 35 Senate elections having completed counting, if the seats that are not up for re-election in this round are taken into account, the Democrats hold 50 seats, while the Republicans have 38 seats.
Texas became one of the biggest surprises of the night. Democrat James Taralico won a Senate seat, marking the first time in decades that the party has secured such a seat in the region.
If the Democratic Party controls the House of Representatives, it will make it more difficult for Trump to push legislation through and may also lead to new investigations.
Trump told The New York Times that he accepts the election results and expects to cooperate with the Democrats.
