On Friday, protesters broke into a construction site for a Microsoft data center located on the outskirts of Amsterdam to protest against an anti-AI demonstration.

A spokesperson for the protest organization Geef Tegengas, Roos Molenaar, said in a statement, "We will not accept Amsterdam being used to manufacture AI slop, and to fuel genocide." She also stated, "This data center is devouring our drinking water, making the rich richer."
Microsoft did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
A video posted on X by Dutch journalist Tom Olthof shows people hanging banners opposing the project, while on the opposite side of the road, another demonstration was taking place.

Olthof wrote in the caption: 'Current situation: Activists have entered the venue and hung banners opposing Microsoft. Across the road, there is a demonstration in support of this action. The police are concerned that the construction site may be damaged due to chemicals. No evictions have taken place yet.'
Olthof said that the police are concerned that the use of chemicals may cause damage to the construction site.
Geef Tegengas had also taken action against that construction site before: in June, its activists occupied the construction area and briefly forced the work to stop.
This is an ongoing report, which will be updated in the future.
