According to CoinMeta, the U.S. military stated on Sunday that an oil tanker associated with Iran sank in the Gulf of Oman, following previous strikes by the U.S. military against three crude oil carriers in response to Iranian missile attacks on U.S. Navy vessels. This incident has heightened tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy corridor. The U.S. Central Command reported that the sunken tanker, identified as M/T Kylo (also referred to as Noxen), sank after being struck multiple times on Saturday. The command said that the crew had been instructed to abandon the ship before it was hit. These strikes occurred after the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards launched several ballistic missile attacks on U.S. aircraft carriers and missile destroyers. The U.S. military stated that both ships successfully dodged the attacks without any casualties on American side. Following this incident, shipping volumes through the Strait of Hormuz have significantly decreased, and the impact on oil prices has not yet fully materialized.
