According to CoinMeta, Wu said that Bitcoin mining companies and IREN, the operator of the AI data center, announced that their 2GW Sweetwater Hub facility located in Texas, USA, has been conditionally included in the Texas Electric Reliability Commission’s (ERCOT) Batch Zero program and classified as a base load. This project includes 1,400MW from Sweetwater 1 and 600MW from Sweetwater 2, and is part of the global data center development portfolio of over 5GW that has been announced by IREN. The high-voltage substation for Sweetwater 1 was energized earlier this year, and construction is currently underway for a 300MW (gross capacity) data center, with a target delivery in the fourth quarter of 2027. IREN emphasized that the relevant classification of ERCOT is still a conditional arrangement, and further continuous approval processes are required thereafter.
