According to CoinMeta, Wu said that the online asset recovery organization dart revealed that during the theft crisis caused by a firmware entropy value vulnerability in coldcard, a subsidiary of hardware wallet manufacturer coinkite, dart in conjunction with independent white-hat security researchers successfully rescued and transferred just over 50 BTC from the affected risky addresses before the hackers could do so. Previous reports indicated that due to some historical firmware errors, the entropy values generated for the mnemonic phrases were severely insufficient, allowing hackers to steal over 1,500 BTC (resulting in a loss of over $100 million). To ensure that the rescued funds are returned legally and compliantly, this batch of protected BTC was not stored in personal wallets but was placed in an account set up by national security lawyers from Sidai Law Firm, named “crypto recovery trust”. Through rigorous legal procedures such as online fund tracing, sanction screening, and ownership verification, the funds will be returned to the rightful owners according to the law.
