UK FCA Joins Forces with Law Enforcement to Crack Down on Illegal P2P Cryptocurrency Transactions
2026-09-17 17:46:02
According to CoinMeta, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) of the UK issued a statement stating that it, in conjunction with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the Metropolitan Police Department of London, took enforcement action against three business premises in London that were suspected of conducting illegal peer-to-peer (P2P) cryptocurrency transactions. Orders to cease such non-compliant activities were issued to all involved locations, mandating them to immediately stop these operations. The FCA emphasized that conducting cryptocurrency transactions in the UK on a commercial basis must be registered in accordance with the law. Currently, there is not a single cryptocurrency business in the UK that has obtained registration permission from the authority; unregistered operators are at risk of becoming channels for money laundering and bypassing anti-money laundering surveillance. This joint search operation is the latest law enforcement measure following similar actions taken in April this year, and the evidence collected will be used for subsequent criminal investigations and judicial proceedings.
