According to CoinMeta, in version 0.99.0, MCP was officially built-in to Pi. The official website's "no mcp" has been changed to "now with mcp + codemode". Author Mario Zechner tested and found that the 21 tool descriptions in Playwright MCP account for about 13,700 tokens, and the 26 tools in Chrome DevTools MCP account for about 18,000 tokens. He believes that having too many tools wastes context and makes it difficult to combine them. Now, the MCP tools are only exposed to Codemode; the model uses JavaScript to call, combine, and filter results in parallel, returning only the necessary content. Tools can be set to load lazily, so there is no need to declare all of them at the beginning. The Pi team pointed out that many MCP servers still cram a large number of tools and text results into the context, and the issue of tool combination has not yet been resolved. MCP itself is changing, and Pi has found a more suitable approach: retaining the MCP universal interface and using Codemode to avoid unsatisfactory usage methods.
