Under ongoing inflationary pressures, consumer spending continues to drive the economy. Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve's favored inflation indicator—the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index (PCEPI)– rose 0.3% month-on-month in August, and the core PCEPI index, which excludes food and energy costs, rose 0.2%.
