Bank of England: UK gilt market facing increasing spillover risks
2026-09-30 21:13:59
According to CoinMeta, the Bank of England has warned that the high leverage levels of hedge funds in the UK government bond market, combined with their exposure to risks associated with artificial intelligence assets and corporate debt, have increased the risk of mutual transmission of market pressures, making the market more vulnerable to simultaneous shocks. Currently, the yield on UK 10-year government bonds has approached levels seen during the financial crisis in 2008. The Financial Policy Committee is studying measures aimed at enhancing the resilience of the government bond repurchase market and managing risks in order to address the challenges posed by the rising leverage ratio over the past 18 months. These measures are expected to be announced in early 2027.
