According to CoinMeta, former National Crime Agency (NCA) official Paul Jones was ordered to repay £1,810,678.93 for theft, which is approximately 30 times the value of the bitcoins that were seized from his own agency. Jones is the third investigator arrested in connection with the Silk Road case. In 2017, he stole bitcoins worth about £60,000, and the amount he is now required to pay has increased significantly due to the rise in bitcoin prices. The seizure order was issued under the Criminal Proceeds Act of 2002, and Merseyside Police estimated the direct profit from the theft to be £613,147.29.
