SoftBank completes the final tranche of its $3 billion investment in OpenAI
2026-10-01 17:34:22
According to CoinMeta, SoftBank's $3 billion investment in OpenAI was completed on October 1, 2026, with the third installment being $1 billion. The funds came from a $11.1 billion high-yield bond issuance, which was the largest high-yield corporate bond sale in history and indicated a reclassification of capital markets' perception of AI's infrastructure investments. SoftBank's cumulative investment has now reached approximately $64.6 billion, representing about 13% of the equity. Despite the substantial investment amount, the governance structure of OpenAI is still controlled by its foundation, rather than the investors.
