According to CoinMeta, researcher Alan Chan stated that the “intelligence explosion” could lead to “mythic-level” moments on a monthly basis. He co-authored a paper with other top AI researchers, calling for supervision of the most cutting-edge research conducted by AI companies. Chan pointed out that if leading AI model manufacturers are able to automate the development of future models, it could create a feedback loop that accelerates the pace of AI progress. He emphasized that policymakers need to have a better understanding of how top AI laboratories automate their development and suggested measures such as using embedded auditors. Chan also mentioned that although policymakers always have the opportunity to take action, its impact may diminish over time.
