Lloyds and Visa test $7.5 million in USDC cross-border settlement

According to CoinMeta, Lloyds Banking Group and Visa completed a seven-day experiment in which they used USDC to process real-time US dollar settlement obligations amounting to $750,000. The funds were transferred to Visa in less than an hour, including during weekends. The purpose of this transaction was not to introduce stablecoins to Lloyds customers, but rather to integrate USDC into the infrastructure of financial institutions for mutual settlement purposes. The experiment tested whether blockchain currencies could maintain institutional settlement operations when traditional banking infrastructure was limited. Lloyds purchased USDC through the UK-regulated digital asset exchange Archax. The $750,000 in settlements was registered through Lloyds at the corporate market branch in Jersey and then transferred to Visa in the United States. This experiment demonstrated how stablecoins can be incorporated into the settlement process and showed that real-time obligations between two large financial institutions can be fulfilled outside of the regular banking calendar.
