Bitcoin mining companies accelerating shift to AI / HPC, facing multiple pressures
2026-10-01 20:06:56
According to CoinMeta, as reported in "Wu's September Mining News," Bitcoin mining companies are accelerating the shift of their electricity and data center resources towards AI / HPC. The power yield per unit of computation for AI is higher than that of Bitcoin mining, and some mining companies have canceled orders for mining machines, reduced their computing power, or suspended certain mining operations. The industry is also facing pressures such as increasing mining costs, declining computing power, and a decrease in miners' holdings. In terms of regional policies, Ethiopia has cut off power supply to mining companies, Sweden is demanding tax payments from crypto enterprises, and Kazakhstan is promoting the use of associated gas from oil fields to power mining sites. Companies such as Bitdeer, CleanSpark, and PowerCompute have disclosed plans for building new data centers, expanding mining facilities, repaying debts, and adjusting their computing power. Some mining companies are exploring ways to repurpose their existing infrastructure for HPC and AI.
