According to CoinMeta, Illinois has agreed to postpone the implementation date of its 0.2% crypto transaction tax from January 1, 2027, to July 1, 2027. In accordance with a court motion reached by both parties, a joint court motion was filed requesting a preliminary injunction to stop the implementation in January. Illinois, together with the plaintiff Digital Chamber of Commerce and the Illinois Blockchain Association, submitted this request, proposing July 1, 2027, as an alternative date. The document describes the agreement among the parties to seek court relief, rather than a final ruling on the legality of the tax. According to the schedule of the request, enforcement will be postponed, while legal challenges will continue. The Blockchain Association and the Crypto Innovation Commission argued in earlier preliminary injunction requests that the deadline in January would force their organizations and members to spend millions of dollars on compliance.
