Tencent and Oracle Sign a $7 Billion AI Chip Lease Agreement

According to CoinMeta, Tencent has reached an agreement with Oracle to lease 100,000 AI chips, with a contract value of $7 billion. This move aims to transfer computing power outside of China due to tightening chip restrictions. The agreement covers multiple Oracle data centers in Southeast Asia, and approximately 30% of the contract value is required to be paid in advance. Although Tencent and Oracle have not officially confirmed this agreement, Reuters stated that they are unable to verify it independently. Tencent is actively increasing its investment in AI to develop large-scale language models and generative applications. This contract will represent its largest overseas computing lease, as Chinese technology companies are seeking alternative solutions to direct chip procurement. Oracle's cloud infrastructure revenue recently surged by 121% year-on-year, and it delivered over 300,000 GPU chips, increasing data center capacity by 850MW, which contributed to a rise in the company's stock price after its financial report exceeded expectations.
