Spanish police arrest 16-year-old Romanian minor suspected of belonging to a ransomware gang

According to CoinMeta, Spanish police have arrested a 16-year-old minor of Romanian nationality, suspected to be the administrator and main operator of a ransomware gang killsec. On September 30th, law enforcement agencies from multiple countries conducted operation killswitch, arresting a total of 3 suspects and searching 8 locations in Spain, Greece, Romania, and the UK. The investigation involves approximately 1,000 suspected cyberattacks globally, with about 500 confirmed to be successful. Law enforcement authorities have taken control of the killsec leaking website and 5 core servers, protecting at least 110 TB stolen data, and are tracking criminal proceeds including cryptocurrencies. Another suspect of Dutch nationality residing in the UK, Fouad Eltibrizi, has been arrested and is awaiting extradition to Puerto Rico. He was previously charged with unauthorized access to computers, destruction of protected computers, and sending ransom threats, but has not yet been convicted.
