According to CoinMeta, El Salvador's President Bukele announced that the country has received a loan of $139 million from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), despite previously violating restrictions on Bitcoin. As part of a $1.4 billion loan, El Salvador agreed to stop using government funds to purchase Bitcoin, yet its Bitcoin holdings continue to grow. The IMF stated that the newly acquired Bitcoin came from private donations, and penalties for the violations were waived after El Salvador pledged to take corrective measures. The IMF also indicated that El Salvador should not increase its Bitcoin holdings beyond these donations.
