According to CoinMeta, IRS Risk and Control Officer Dottie Romo stated at the Future Money Summit at the United Nations headquarters in New York that the AI system is already processing millions of payments, yet the response from regulatory authorities has lagged far behind. She pointed out that traditional regulatory methods may not be able to keep up with the rapid development of AI, and called for some form of automated supervision to address this challenge. According to BeinCrypto research, AI proxy payments began on a large scale in 2026; the study tracked 6.4 million x402 payment transactions between July 23 and August 26, with a total amount of $119,947. Although most of the transaction amounts were small, AI has recorded nearly 200 million settlement transactions since its launch. Romo emphasized that regulators need to monitor the market in real time to cope with the fast decision-making of AI proxies.
