Form Energy: New type of iron battery can store energy for up to 100 hours
2026-10-06 19:05:30
According to CoinMeta, Form Energy is developing a new type of iron-based battery that can store energy for up to 100 hours. The company is expanding the production capacity of its factory in West Virginia and signing commercial project agreements. This new battery utilizes a "reversible rusting" process, taking advantage of the abundance and low cost of iron, with the aim of providing cheaper long-duration energy storage solutions. Form Energy has signed an agreement with Minnesota Power Company Great River Energy to launch a 150 megawatt-hour battery system in 2027, and is also collaborating with Xcel Energy to provide 30 gigawatt-hours of battery support for a new Google data center. This project is expected to be rolled out in phases between 2028 and 2031.
