X-energy: Helium-cooled nuclear reactors meet industrial high-temperature demands
2026-10-06 19:06:18
According to CoinMeta, X-energy is developing small, modular nuclear reactors to meet the high-temperature requirements of global industrial manufacturers, which need such temperatures to produce billions of tons of concrete, plastics, fibers, and chemicals. The cooling systems of traditional nuclear reactors require liquid water and are unable to reach the required high temperatures. The XE-100 reactor proposed by X-energy will use helium as a coolant, allowing it to operate at lower pressures and higher temperatures. This reactor can provide superheated steam directly for industry or generate electricity through turbines, supplying about 80 megawatts of power. X-energy expects that its reactor will have inherent safety features; when power is lost, the nuclear reaction will naturally slow down and stop as temperatures rise.
