Ethereum researcher: AI may crack encryption before quantum computers
2026-10-08 05:19:09
According to CoinMeta, Ethereum researcher Justin Drake warns that artificial intelligence may crack encryption before quantum computers become a reality. He calls on the blockchain industry to begin planning for a “survival mode” and suggests migrating funds to new addresses that have never been used for any transactions in order to hide public keys. He points out that the security of the ECDSA signature scheme is at risk; if cracked, attackers could deduce private keys from the public keys, leading to wallet theft. Drake believes that ECDSA could be compromised before quantum computers become powerful enough to crack existing encryption, and in the worst-case scenario, this could happen within a few months. He also mentions that wallets holding less than 50 BTC enjoy some protection, which he refers to as “Satoshi Nakamoto’s umbrella.”
