Justin Drake: The blockchain industry should prepare for the "fortress mode"
2026-10-08 10:06:46
According to CoinMeta, security researcher Justin Drake calls on the blockchain industry to begin preparing for the "fortress mode" ( bunker mode ). He suggests migrating assets in an orderly manner to new addresses where the public keys are still hidden behind hashes and have never been used to sign any transactions. After signing the addresses, the remaining assets should be transferred to these new addresses again. At the same time, he emphasizes that there is no need for panic or hasty migration. He believes it is now necessary to prepare for the possibility that ECDSA could be breached before " q-day ", and in the worst-case scenario, the so-called "breach" could occur within months rather than years. By "breach," he means that it would be possible to use existing hardware, such as large GPU clusters, to quickly recover the private keys within about a week.
