Elon Musk and TSMC engage in cooperation discussions regarding the Terafab project, which may pose competitive pressure to Intel

According to CoinMeta, as reported by Benzinga, Elon Musk has opened the possibility of cooperation with TSMC ($TSM), which involves their large-scale Terafab project. This could bring new competitive pressure to Intel ($INTC). Musk stated that Tesla plans to use Intel's next-generation 14a manufacturing process to produce chips, but discussions with TSMC are also underway. He noted, "It's just at the discussion stage, but there could be progress." This means that Intel may no longer be the main external contract manufacturer for Terafab. Adding TSMC as a supplier will give Musk more bargaining power in terms of pricing and production capacity. For Intel, the 14a manufacturing process is crucial for building its competitive contract manufacturing business, and Terafab could provide them with the major external customers needed to prove that the 14a process can handle the production of high-capacity advanced chips. TSMC is actively expanding in the United States and has extensive experience in advanced chip production.
