Six major banks release an autonomous business management framework, but it is voluntary in nature

According to CoinMeta, on September 22, 2026, six major banks released a report titled "Building Trust in Autonomous Managed Commerce," proposing a voluntary framework for autonomous management of purchases. The report was co-authored by NatWest, Bank of America, ING, Capital One, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and ASB Bank, and outlines five principles: transparency, security, privacy and data protection, consumer choice, and interoperability. This is the first time financial institutions have coordinated efforts to establish behavioral guidelines for autonomous agents when representing human consumers. Although these principles seem reasonable, they are not mandatory. The report points out that as the market for autonomous managed commerce accelerates its development, it is particularly important for regulatory frameworks to keep up.
