CFTC Acting Chairman: Cryptocurrency regulation does not require congressional legislation
2026-10-12 12:44:50
According to CoinMeta, as reported by The Block, former acting chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Caroline Pham stated that the Commodity Exchange Act has granted the CFTC jurisdiction over nearly all commodities, with the exceptions of "onions and movie box office revenue." Therefore, regulating cryptocurrencies does not require additional legislation from Congress. Pham predicts that tokenized deposits will play a key role in the wholesale market, as the cash required for daily atomic settlements is approximately $15 trillion, and stablecoins are more suitable for scenarios where counterparties do not know each other or lack trust. She also expects that the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will list "real" tokenized stocks within the next two years and see actual trading volumes.
