G20 Financial Stability Board releases report on stablecoin risks
2026-10-12 19:17:26
According to CoinMeta, as reported by Coindesk, the Financial Stability Board of G20 has issued a report warning that stablecoins have not undergone stress tests during market crises, and the development speed of regulatory frameworks varies from country to country, exacerbating redemption and reserve risks. The report indicates that the market size of stablecoins has grown from approximately $206 billion at the beginning of 2025 to $306 billion, with most dollar-pegged stablecoins being used in crypto investments and cross-border payments. The committee emphasizes that under a multi-issuer model, subsidiaries store reserve assets in different jurisdictions, which can lead to funds being trapped in a single region during redemption periods, hindering emergency responses. Additionally, the report mentions the mismatch between the 24-hour trading hours of stablecoins and the business hours of their underlying asset markets, as well as the data gaps caused by the anonymity of crypto transactions. The committee calls for enhanced cross-border information sharing, monitoring, and crisis preparedness planning.
