Australia plans to include encrypted settlement of CFD in retail trading rules
2026-10-12 22:05:15
According to CoinMeta, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has proposed to include certain crypto-settled contracts in existing retail trading protection measures. Previous reports indicated that traders suffered losses of over $458 million. ASIC hopes to update the definition of these contracts to cover qualified products settled through digital asset transfers, while maintaining the current restrictions on leverage and investor losses. The proposal also suggests extending the product intervention orders for another 10 years, subject to ministerial approval. The ASIC has invited the public to provide feedback on the proposal by November 9th. According to ASIC data, in the 2023-24 fiscal year, 68% of retail customers recorded net losses in these transactions, totaling over $458 million.
