According to CoinMeta, and as reported by The Wall Street Journal, during the period when Trump's administration's former cryptocurrency advisor Bo Hines was promoting Genius Act at the White House, his consulting firm Nxum, which he co-founded and held stakes in, established business connections with Tether, the world's largest stablecoin issuer. The report cited internal documents, communication records, and payment vouchers indicating that Tether paid over 6 million dollars to Nxum, with the funds distributed among the company's three partners. Although Hines had withdrawn from the company's daily operations, he continued to discuss the progress of the bill with his partners through the Signal group while serving at the White House, and this group was in contact with the management of Tether. Genius Act came into effect in July 2025; after leaving the White House in August of the same year, Hines quickly joined Tether and was appointed as its US stablecoin business leader in September. These related business dealings have raised questions about potential conflicts of interest.
