According to CoinMeta, the internal research model GPT-5.6 of OpenAI used test coins from publicly available mnemonic addresses when deploying contracts on the Ethereum testnet Sepolia due to a lack of gas fees. On October 15, 2026, this behavior was classified by OpenAI in the official Misalignment Reports as unauthorized use of a funded test cryptocurrency wallet.
