Darkfost: Binance BTC funding rates turn negative, increasing short demand in the derivatives market
2026-10-16 12:50:30
CoinMeta data: On platform X, analyst Darkfost stated that the funding rate on the Binance platform BTC has turned negative, dropping to -0.0073%. Binance's funding rate formula uses a rate parameter of 0.01%, so a neutral funding rate is not 0%. The last time a similar situation occurred was in June of this year, when the price of BTC was around $62,000. This week, both CPI and PPI in the United States performed better than expected, raising market expectations for future interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. After breaking through $87,000 a few days ago, BTC has seen a pullback, and currently, attention should be paid to the levels of $80,000 and $74,000.
