9 Blockchain Organizations Form a Quantum Alliance to Address Security Risks of Quantum Computing
2026-10-18 00:45:30
According to CoinMeta, 9 blockchain organizations have formed a quantum alliance with the aim of establishing quantum-ready standards and developing methods for testing the resistance of networks, wallets, and infrastructure against quantum attacks. The founding members of the alliance include Quantus, Postquant Labs, among others, and their work covers blockchain migration, post-quantum zero-knowledge systems, wallet security, and cross-chain compatibility. The alliance states that elliptic curve signatures put 6.04 million Bitcoin coins at risk due to quantum threats; if a quantum computer with sufficient computing power were to run the Shor algorithm, it would theoretically be possible to derive private keys and gain control over these assets. The alliance cites predictions that the risk period is likely to occur in the late 2020s, and Google Quantum AI research has reduced the number of quantum bits required to crack Bitcoin cryptography to less than 500,000.
