Blockworks: Details of the Token Economy Reform by Aptos
2026-10-20 22:59:59
According to CoinMeta, a report by Blockworks Research indicates that in March of this year, Aptos implemented a token economy reform that increased the gas fee tenfold, reduced the staking reward rate from 5.19% to 2.6%, and set the maximum supply of APT at 2.1 billion tokens, with 210 million of these tokens being permanently locked. Following the reform, the annual net supply growth rate of APT decreased from about 5% to 1.5%, and the proportion of tokens destroyed relative to new issuances rose from 0.2% to around 10%. As the token unlocking plan for investors and the team comes to an end in October, the annual unlocking volume is expected to drop from about 135 million tokens to 21 million tokens, not including additional tokens issued through staking. Blockworks estimates that if the current trading structure is maintained, a daily trading volume of approximately 91 million transactions would be required to offset the new issuance volume and achieve zero net supply growth.
