MasterCard Launches AI Proxy Payment System, Opening Early Access
2026-10-21 00:03:09
According to CoinMeta, Mastercard is transforming its vision of autonomous trading agents, denoted as AI, from a concept into a practical demonstration by launching a machine payment system called Agent Pay. This system allows autonomous software to discover services, negotiate agreements, and make payments within set limits. The company first announced plans for this system in June and showcased this milestone at the Cloudflare Connect conference. During the demonstration, an agent from the marketing agency Hype discovered registered providers and executed a two-step plan within a set budget, which involved social media research and payment for promotional images. This launch follows end-to-end pilots with Cloudflare, AWS, and Coinbase; Mastercard will also release tools, kits, and a developer sandbox for buyers and sellers.
