U.S. Senator Blumenthal again criticized the crypto industry, saying the CLARITY bill could weaken law enforcement.

U.S. Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal has once again spoken out about the crypto industry. He stated on the social media platform X that cryptocurrency has become a common tool for criminals to transfer funds. This statement came after a victim of a large-scale romance scam testified.

Pointing to the expansion of crypto scams

Blumenthal stated that scammers prefer using crypto assets because these funds can be transferred quickly and are often difficult to recover once completed. Earlier this week, he also convened a forum on Capitol Hill to discuss crypto scams and fraud.

At the forum, Blumenthal stated that crypto scams and related fraud are expanding. He believes that digital assets have made it easier to transfer and launder stolen funds, thus putting greater pressure on law enforcement.

Opposing the CLARITY Act

He also directed his criticism at the Senate's CLARITY bill, which aims to establish a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets. However, Blumenthal argues that the bill would weaken law enforcement capabilities, particularly potentially limiting the role of state attorneys general.

The report noted that Senators Chris Van Hollen and Lisa Blunt Rochester also opposed the Republican-backed bill. Several Democratic lawmakers argued that the existing version of the bill was insufficient in terms of consumer protection and ethical constraints.

Divides intensify ahead of midterm elections

With the US midterm elections approaching, crypto-industry-backed super PACs are becoming a significant financial force in Washington, including Fairshake and its affiliates. This has further intensified the public debate surrounding crypto regulation.

Coinbase and Stablecore connect with community banks: Covering 3,000 is a potential, not all have already been launched
On September 16th, Coinbase announced a partnership with Stablecore to integrate digital asset custody, trading, and stablecoin payments into the existing systems of community banks, regional banks, and credit cooperatives in the United States. This collaboration has already been implemented in financial institutions including those in Texas under Amarillo National Bank. The technology provided by Stablecore can reach over 3,000 banks and credit cooperatives, but being "reachable" does not mean that all of these institutions have already adopted it, nor does it imply that thousands of banks will simultaneously offer crypto services on that day.

1.9 trillion euro fund platform partners with Solana: Project Harmonia launches first, not yet fully online
Another bridge has been built between traditional fund distribution and public blockchains. On September 16th, the Solana Foundation announced the launch of Project Harmonia, which connects tokenized funds on the Solana blockchain through the global fund distribution network Allfunds. As of June 30, 2026, this project managed a scale of approximately 1.9 trillion euros, connecting over 3,300 asset management firms and financial institutions. Such a scale has drawn attention to the project, but at this stage, the focus is first on collecting proposals; it's not that 1.9 trillion euros in assets have already been moved onto the blockchain.

U.S. New Home Starts Fall to 1.275 Million in August: Single-family Homes Recover, but That Can't Hide a Sharp Drop in Completed Homes
U.S. housing construction delivered a mixed report in August. On September 17, the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that the seasonally adjusted annual start of new homes totaled 1.275 million units, a decrease of 2.6% from the revised figure for July and a year-over-year decline of 1.2%. However, the start of single-family homes rose to 918,000 units, an increase of 7.6% from the previous month. The simultaneous weakening of the overall figure and the rebound in single-family homes indicate that the decline was mainly due to multi-family residences, rather than a cooling across all types of housing.

Anthropic Opens "Lax Version" of Claude to Life Sciences Team: Behind the Application System is an Experiment with Permissions
On September 17th, Anthropic launched the Life Sciences Verification Program LSVP, which allows qualified professional teams to use the Claude model with fewer restrictions for tasks such as drug discovery, biological research, clinical development, and manufacturing. This program has already been integrated with dozens of institutions in its early stages and is now open for applications to a wider range of life science organizations in its beta version. It is not a one-time unlocking for all users, but rather a tiered access system based on identity, project, and continuous monitoring.
