JPMorgan Chase states that if the defensive hedging of Bitcoin ETF weakens, Bitcoin may have even more room for a rebound relative to gold.

JPMorgan Chase believes that Bitcoin still has room to strengthen further relative to gold, provided that investors begin to reduce the defensive hedging positions they have established around Bitcoin. The bank notes that, although the current capital flow seems to favor gold, the position structure in the Bitcoin market may provide additional support when sentiment improves.

Gold ETF repairs faster.

After the Federal Reserve's meeting in July, both gold and Bitcoin ETF saw a resumption of capital inflows, reflecting that some investors have returned to trading strategies aimed at hedging against currency devaluation.

However, JPMorgan Chase stated that the recovery speeds of these two types of assets are not consistent. Gold ETF has basically regained all the outflows from earlier 2026, while Bitcoin ETF has only recovered about half of the previous outflow volume so far.

Looking solely at the capital flow, gold has performed significantly better. However, this bank believes that if one only considers the net inflow data, they may overlook more critical position signals in the Bitcoin market.

Bitcoin's defensive positions are even stronger.

JPMorgan Chase stated that the institution has maintained a relatively high allocation to both gold and Bitcoin, but Bitcoin investors are more cautious about downside risks.

This is also reflected in the options market. The report mentions that among the open contracts for BlackRock's spot Bitcoin ETF IBIT, the put/call ratio is higher than that of gold ETF GLD, indicating that Bitcoin investors have purchased more protection against a decline in price.

This view holds that such a more defensive position structure will suppress risk appetite in the short term, but if market sentiment improves and investors begin to reduce their protective positions, Bitcoin may receive more incremental support than gold.

  • Gold ETF has recovered all the outflows for the year.
  • Bitcoin ETF only recovers about half of the outflows
  • IBIT Bear/bull position ratio is higher than GLD

JPMorgan Chase becomes more cautious within the year

JPMorgan was relatively optimistic about the crypto market at the beginning of 2026. In February, the bank's analyst team was still bullish on the performance of digital assets for the year and estimated that the production cost of Bitcoin was around $77,000, which was lower than the initial estimate of around $90,000 at the beginning of the year.

The team also reiterated at that time that, based on comparisons with the volatility of gold, the long-term valuation of Bitcoin could reach $266,000.

However, as 2026 progressed, JPMorgan's stance turned more cautious. In June of that year, the bank stated that Bitcoin had been operating below its estimated production costs for five consecutive months. At the same time, legislative developments surrounding the US Clarity Act were also seen by the bank as new uncertainties.

In this context, JPMorgan's current judgment is not simply bullish on Bitcoin, but rather emphasizes that if the defensive hedging in the ETF market begins to cool down, Bitcoin may have a greater potential for performance relative to gold.

Coinbase and Stablecore connect with community banks: Covering 3,000 is a potential, not all have already been launched
On September 16th, Coinbase announced a partnership with Stablecore to integrate digital asset custody, trading, and stablecoin payments into the existing systems of community banks, regional banks, and credit cooperatives in the United States. This collaboration has already been implemented in financial institutions including those in Texas under Amarillo National Bank. The technology provided by Stablecore can reach over 3,000 banks and credit cooperatives, but being "reachable" does not mean that all of these institutions have already adopted it, nor does it imply that thousands of banks will simultaneously offer crypto services on that day.

1.9 trillion euro fund platform partners with Solana: Project Harmonia launches first, not yet fully online
Another bridge has been built between traditional fund distribution and public blockchains. On September 16th, the Solana Foundation announced the launch of Project Harmonia, which connects tokenized funds on the Solana blockchain through the global fund distribution network Allfunds. As of June 30, 2026, this project managed a scale of approximately 1.9 trillion euros, connecting over 3,300 asset management firms and financial institutions. Such a scale has drawn attention to the project, but at this stage, the focus is first on collecting proposals; it's not that 1.9 trillion euros in assets have already been moved onto the blockchain.

U.S. New Home Starts Fall to 1.275 Million in August: Single-family Homes Recover, but That Can't Hide a Sharp Drop in Completed Homes
U.S. housing construction delivered a mixed report in August. On September 17, the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that the seasonally adjusted annual start of new homes totaled 1.275 million units, a decrease of 2.6% from the revised figure for July and a year-over-year decline of 1.2%. However, the start of single-family homes rose to 918,000 units, an increase of 7.6% from the previous month. The simultaneous weakening of the overall figure and the rebound in single-family homes indicate that the decline was mainly due to multi-family residences, rather than a cooling across all types of housing.

Anthropic Opens "Lax Version" of Claude to Life Sciences Team: Behind the Application System is an Experiment with Permissions
On September 17th, Anthropic launched the Life Sciences Verification Program LSVP, which allows qualified professional teams to use the Claude model with fewer restrictions for tasks such as drug discovery, biological research, clinical development, and manufacturing. This program has already been integrated with dozens of institutions in its early stages and is now open for applications to a wider range of life science organizations in its beta version. It is not a one-time unlocking for all users, but rather a tiered access system based on identity, project, and continuous monitoring.
