OpenAI has temporarily stopped the new user subscription to the Pro package, which costs $200 per month. The reason is that after the launch of the new model Astra, demand has risen rapidly, putting pressure on the company's infrastructure.
The company stated that this adjustment is aimed at maintaining a wider range of service availability under conditions of limited resources. OpenAI It has not been specified how long the suspension will last, nor has the daily new subscription volume for the Pro package been disclosed.
Other packages can still be used.
OpenAI indicates that the API service, as well as the lower-priced Go and Plus packages, are still available. The quality of service for existing users will be given priority, which is also the main reason why the company has decided to suspend the addition of new Pro subscriptions.
Earlier this week, OpenAI issued a warning in advance, stating that the demand for Astra was "unprecedented," and the company was using various methods to handle the traffic. If the demand continues to remain high, new Pro subscriptions may be temporarily suspended.
Astra was launched on September 3rd.
Released on September 3rd, Astra was subsequently gradually made available to multiple account levels, including users of Pro, Plus, Enterprise, and Business. This model has also been integrated into the AI product system of OpenAI.
OpenAI describes Astra as a significant upgrade in areas such as reasoning, programming, and computer operations. These fields are also among the most competitive segments for AI company at present.
The pressure may be due to a recent concentrated occurrence.
It is worth noting that OpenAI just increased the usage limit for Codex users last month. This suggests that the current resource pressure is more likely to have occurred concentratedly in the short period after the release of Astra, rather than being a long-term issue.
At present, OpenAI has not announced a timeline for restoring new subscriptions for Pro. However, based on the company's stance, the short-term focus remains on prioritizing the experience of existing users and ensuring the normal operation of other main product lines.
