Microsoft announced today (September 30) that it is officially releasing the 2026 Q2 update, also known as 26H2, to eligible PC devices through a small-scale enablement package (eKB).
In terms of updates, Microsoft officially stated that Windows 11 26H2 integrates all the Windows innovative features, security improvements, and enhanced functionalities that were introduced over the past year in 25H2. The main improvements mentioned in the log attached to IT's home are as follows:
- Smarter File Explorer
- Enhance the Windows Search search experience. With the preview function, improved ability to recognize typos and application abbreviations, clearer categorized search results, and automatic indexing of commonly used folders, users can find what they need more easily.
- Enhance accessibility experiences. The magnifier now offers more precise zooming options and screen tone filter settings; narrators have been upgraded with braille viewers and other improvements; the voice access feature has expanded its natural language command capabilities on supported Copilot + PC.
- More Windows personalized settings. New custom options have been added to the Start menu and Taskbar, including a brand-new Start menu view with size adjustment, more possible positions for the Taskbar, as well as a compact Taskbar mode.
In terms of support cycles, Windows 11 26H2 continues Microsoft's annual Windows feature update schedule. The support cycle for the Home and Professional editions is 24 months, while the Enterprise and Education editions have a support cycle of 36 months. The first monthly update will be released on October 13th.
At this stage, users can only obtain it through the Windows Update method. It is estimated that Microsoft will update and release the image file for the Windows 11 26H2 update in the near future. IT will continue to monitor and follow up on this in a timely manner.
