The Philippine Central Bank restricts the transfer of peso funds to the Coins.ph cryptocurrency platform

The Central Bank of the Philippines has restricted the transfer of funds to operators of electronic wallets related to Coins.ph through InstaPay and PESONet.

Despite the restrictions on transfers, merchant payments made by Coins.ph through QRPh are still available.

The order from the Central Bank of the Philippines (BSP) is directed at DCPay Philippines, a company responsible for the operation of electronic wallets and payment services for Coins.ph.

As one of the main cryptocurrency platforms in the Philippines, Coins.ph is facing new restrictions on bank deposits after the country's central bank limited some transfers to its e-wallet operators.

This measure affects transfers between InstaPay and PESONet. Users will no longer be able to top up their accounts with pesos through some major local banks. Here is the information that users need to know.

BSP Prevent transfers into Coins.ph

The Central Bank of the Philippines Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas ( BSP ), in accordance with Resolution No. 839 of the Monetary Board, has implemented partial suspension measures against the electronic wallet operator DCPay Philippines Inc behind Coins.ph.

The Philippine payment management company ( Philippine Payments Management Inc ., PPMI ) subsequently notified various financial institutions through PPMI Advisory to implement this restriction within the payment network.

According to this command, DCPay is not allowed to receive credit transfers transferred through InstaPay and PESONet.

This means that users are currently unable to top up the affected Coins.ph peso wallet from external banks or other electronic wallets through these channels.

Withdrawals and QRPh payments are still available.

This restriction mainly affects the funds flowing into Coins.ph, rather than the funds flowing out.

Users can still transfer funds from Coins.ph to internal and external bank accounts in the Philippines as well as to electronic wallets. QRPh merchant payments are also still available, and customers can use their existing balances to make purchases at participating merchants. Bilyonaryo Business reports so.

The status page for Coins.ph currently displays that InstaPay and PESONet are in maintenance mode for top-up services, while the withdrawal service is still operational. The pages for Coins.ph and Status are displayed.

This restriction also applies to incoming credit transfers initiated through InstaPay QR, as well as DCPay participating in the pilot projects of InstaPay, for, and Business. BitPinas reports this.

The encryption business of Coins.ph is independent.

This command does not directly pause the encryption transaction entity of Coins.ph. Coins.ph is operated through two independent companies.

DCPay Philippines is responsible for e-wallet and peso payment services, while Betur Inc is in charge of virtual asset business with an independent license. Betur is not directly covered by this suspension measure. Bilyonaryo Business reports as such.

However, this restriction may still affect users who rely on local bank transfers to fund their platform accounts in order to purchase crypto assets.

There is no public deadline for the implementation of these restrictive measures yet.

The current announcement does not provide a public date for the restoration of the DCPay deposit channel. As of now, Coins.ph still indicates that the affected recharge services are unavailable, while its encrypted transactions, spot exchanges, and external transfers services are still in operation.
