Following in the footsteps of Apple and Google, Samsung Electronics has raised the prices of its flagship phones by $100 to $200, further shifting the burden of memory costs onto consumers.
Samsung Electronics has raised the prices of most models in the Galaxy S26 series in the United States, with an increase of $100 to $200. This price adjustment comes not long after Apple and Google also raised the prices of their flagship phones, and it is the latest example of consumer technology brands shifting cost pressures downstream amid a persistent shortage of memory chips.
This price increase covers three main models: Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra. Each configuration has seen a rise of $100, with the 1TB top-of-the-line version of S26 Ultra increasing by $200, now priced at $1,999. Since the launch in March this year, the prices of S26 and S26+ were already $100 higher than those of the previous generation S25 series. When combined, the base model S26 is currently $200 more expensive than when S25 was released.
Galaxy S26 FE and the latest foldable screen series, including Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8, Ultra, and Z Flip 8, are not yet affected by this price increase.
Price Increase Range: A Overview of Adjustments for Each Configuration
According to the latest prices on Samsung's official website, after this adjustment, the prices of the main models in the Galaxy S26 series are as follows:
- Galaxy S26 (256GB) has increased in price from $899 to $999;
- S26 + (256GB) has risen from $1099 to $1199;
- S26 Ultra (256GB) has risen from $1299 to $1399;
- S26 Ultra (1TB) had the largest increase, rising from $1799 to $1999.
Galaxy S26 FE is the only model in the series that maintains its original price and is still sold for $699. It is worth noting that when this model was released in August of this year, its price was already $50 higher than that of the previous generation, S25 FE.
S26 Ultra was previously a relatively special model in the series – when Samsung released it in March this year, it maintained a starting price of $1300 and did not follow the price increases of S26 and S26. This makes this the first price increase for this product line since the beginning of 2024.
Industry Background: Chip Shortage Drives a Wave of Price Increases
This round of price increases for smartphones is not a phenomenon unique to Samsung. According to Bloomberg, over the past year, prices of consumer electronics such as laptops, gaming consoles, and smartphones have generally risen. The root cause lies in the boom in artificial intelligence and the large-scale construction of data centers, which has driven a high demand for memory chips, leading to a continuous shortage in supply.
Samsung's price adjustment occurred just a few weeks after Apple launched the more expensive iPhone 18 Pro series and raised the prices of older models such as the iPhone 17. Google's Pixel 11 series under Alphabet also saw an increase in price compared to the previous generation. Previously, in June of this year, Apple raised the prices of almost all its laptops and desktop computers, with some products seeing increases of up to $500.
When Samsung released the S26 series in March this year, it clearly stated that the increase in memory prices was one of the reasons why the pricing was $100 higher than that of the S25 series at that time. This price adjustment, several months after the product was launched, indicates that the pressure of memory costs has not yet eased.
Competitive Landscape: Foldable Screens Temporarily Maintain Price Advantages
In the foldable screen market, Samsung still maintains a certain price advantage at present. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is priced at $1,900, which is lower than the starting price of $1,999 for Apple's iPhone and Duo that will be released on October 23.
Since the foldable screen series is not included in this price increase, this gap will be maintained in the short term.
However, for consumers who are interested in purchasing Samsung's straight-line flagship models, the range of choices has significantly narrowed.
If you wish to purchase a new device from the S26 series at a price close to the release price, Galaxy S26 FE is currently the only option; the minimum starting price for the other models has reached $999.
