Raytheon, a subsidiary of RTX, has secured a five-year contract for Standard Missile-6 (SM-6) interceptors, with an additional two-year option, worth up to $24.4 billion. This contract will significantly enhance the supply capacity of this critical ammunition. SM-6 is capable of performing both offensive strike missions and missile defense tasks.

Raytheon indicates that this long-term order is based on a milestone agreement between the company and the U.S. Department of War, which will ensure that the U.S. Navy receives a continuous and reliable supply of SM-6.

President Phil Jasper stated: "The multitasking capability of SM-6 is of vital importance to our customers, and Raytheon is making every effort to meet their needs. By continuously investing in operations and facilities, we are eliminating capacity limitations and increasing production capacity to ensure that this critical capability, on which our sailors depend, is maintained."

According to Raytheon, the company has invested a substantial amount of funds to keep up with the continuously rising demand, including expanding its skilled workforce, strengthening cooperation with various parties in the defense industry base, and advancing production automation. These measures are aimed at supporting a significant increase in production for both short-term and long-term needs.

SM-6 is the only weapon that has been tested in actual combat and is capable of performing air defense, anti-ship, and ballistic missile defense missions. This missile has been successfully launched from a variety of U.S. Navy shipborne platforms and land-based launch systems, providing the fleet with a versatile and highly reliable weapon to counter the various kinetic threats faced by modern naval forces.
