IT News on October 14th: According to a report by Steam Frame Hub today, VR's headsets from Valve will be released soon. However, it seems that V社 is already working on subsequent products, which may bring improvements in resolution and other aspects.

Publicly available Linux kernel source code shows that the new model Steam Frame is codenamed “Plano” and is equipped with a Micro-OLED display, with a native resolution of 3552×3840 per eye. In contrast, the current model is equipped with two LCD screens with a resolution of 2160×2160 each. If the above data is accurate, the number of pixels per eye in the new Steam Frame will be three times that of the old model, and the OLED panel will also provide higher contrast.

It is worth noting that the display specifications of this headset are almost identical to those of Samsung’s Galaxy XR. The latter also uses a Micro-OLED panel with a resolution of 3552×3840 and a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz. Previous reports speculated that V社 might have purchased panels from Sony or Samsung, but there is no conclusive evidence to confirm the supplier.
According to the original report, IT's home has learned that this headset will still be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. Due to the Adreno 750 GPU bandwidth limitation, the device currently defaults to a single-eye resolution of 1776×1920, which is significantly lower than the native resolution. Valve also tested a mode with higher image quality, with a resolution of 2368×2560.
To solve the aforementioned problems, community V may employ "focal point scaling" technology. This technology can provide higher resolution in the area that the user is looking at, while avoiding rendering the entire image at the native resolution.
