Many phone manufacturers have chosen to adjust their main product specifications to 12GB+256GB or 12GB+512GB. According to a memory price tracking report released by Counterpoint Research on July 29th, the price of smartphone memory increased by more than 80% in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the previous quarter.

- Low-end (wholesale price below $200):In the second quarter of 2026, the cost of the BoM model with similar specifications increased by 70% year-on-year, with almost all of the increase driven by storage costs. The smartphone OEM has significantly streamlined its entry-level product offerings and adjusted its product line to mitigate short-term risks of profit losses.
- Mid-range (wholesale price of $400 to $600):In the second quarter of 2026, the cost of BoM increased by 52% year-on-year. Memory costs accounted for 40% of the total cost of BoM. In this price range, the practice of over-specifying processors and imaging systems is on the decline.
- Flagship level (wholesale price above $800):In the second quarter of 2026, the cost of the flagship model BoM also increased by nearly 50% year-on-year. DRAM surpassed SoC to become the most expensive individual component among flagship smartphones. During the second quarter, the phenomenon of higher starting retail prices compared to previous generations began to emerge in flagship models as well.
