San Jose, California, USA, October 22, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- Super Micro Computer, Inc. (Nasdaq ticker: SMCI) is a provider that offers comprehensive solutions for AI, enterprises, storage, and 5G/edge IT. The company is equipped with Data Center Building Block Solutions ® ( DCBBS ). The company stated that it is currently collaborating with Nokia to advance the deployment of artificial intelligence wireless access networks ( AI-RAN ), covering everything from distributed base stations to centralized network hubs. This solution combines the RAN technology and network expertise of Nokia, as well as the NVIDIA Aerial RAN Computer platform supported by the infrastructure optimized by Supermicro for AI. By bringing accelerated computing capabilities closer to the access network, applications that require low latency and predictable service levels, such as voice AI, vision AI, physical AI, and automated network operations, can all run on shared infrastructure.
"AI-RAN is redefining the network for AI and transforming mobile infrastructure into a shared foundation that connects AI on RAN, AI on RAN, as well as a broader range of distributed AI services," stated Supermicro's President and CEO, Charles Liang. "In collaboration with Nokia and NVIDIA, we are bringing accelerated computing to every level of the network. This enables operators to maximize infrastructure efficiency, launch new AI services, and prepare for AI's native 6G. Our DCBBS approach provides the flexibility and performance needed to speed up deployment and turn network infrastructure into an innovation platform."
By integrating accelerated computing in RAN, operators can run both network and AI workloads on the same infrastructure. This helps to improve spectrum efficiency, automate network operations and maintenance, and optimize energy consumption, while also creating new opportunities for edge AI services. The NVIDIA Aerial RAN Computer platform combines Supermicro systems with the Nokia's RAN technology and software. The platform provides modular CPU and GPU configurations for deployment from base stations to MSO and aggregation sites, and utilizes NVIDIA ConnectX technology to achieve high-speed, software-defined networks. Supermicro states that these combined capabilities provide operators with a flexible foundation to support low-latency AI applications and offer a software-driven evolution path towards 6G networks.
“AI-RAN is an important step towards a smarter and more flexible mobile network,” said Emma Falck, President of Mobile Infrastructure at Nokia. “By combining Nokia’s market leadership in radio networks with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing and Supermicro’s flexible infrastructure, we provide operators with a practical way to aggregate RAN and AI workloads anywhere within their networks. This helps operators to improve network performance and automation today, while also laying the foundation for new edge AI services and AI native 6G.”
"AI-RAN combines networking, accelerated computing, and intelligence to help operators make better use of their infrastructure, while creating new opportunities for AI services at the network edge," said Soma Velayutham, Vice President of Telecommunications Services at NVIDIA. " Nokia and Supermicro are helping operators deploy NVIDIA Aerial RAN Computer solutions in a variety of network environments, from distributed base stations to centralized RAN sites. This provides flexibility to expand intelligent capabilities as demand grows."
The modular system customized for NVIDIA ARC by Supermicro includes distributed base stations, aggregation sites, and core hubs, enabling operators to deploy AI capabilities in the places where they are most needed.
- Distributed base stations: The compact ARC MGX 2U platform brings AI closer to base stations, users, and applications. NVIDIA MGX is a modular reference architecture designed to accelerate computing, which helps system builders design more future-oriented systems more quickly, thereby reducing costs, shortening time to market, and increasing return on investment (ROI). The dual-node ARC-Pro of Supermicro integrates one NVIDIA Grace C1 CPU and one NVIDIA RTX PRO 4500 Blackwell Server Edition GPU in each node; the chassis width is 429 millimeters, and a single node can provide up to 1.6 PFLOPS of FP4 AI performance. For edge network functions such as service management and orchestration, ARC-Compact offers efficient computing performance in a compact 1U low-depth chassis.
- Centralized MSO and aggregated sites: ARC MGX 2U support higher throughput for collaborative inference. This system category can be selected between two NVIDIA Vera CPU or two x86 processors and two NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPU. Such systems support multi-cell workloads, including collaborative scheduling and beamforming, as well as voice, vision, and physical AI.
- Core network nodes: The ARC MGX 4U provides high-density air-cooled inference, capable of accommodating up to 8 NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPU. The Supermicro 4U AI servers are equipped with dual x86 CPU and up to 6TB of DDR5 memory to support large-scale inference and model update workloads. This configuration can also be optionally equipped with a NVIDIA ConnectX -8 switch board to provide PCIe Gen 6, enabling faster connections between GPU.
Supermicro servers, targeted at NVIDIA ARC, are now available on the market. The ARC MGX 2U model, equipped with dual Vera processors, will be exhibited at the NVIDIA GTC event held in Berlin from October 20th to 22nd, 2026, and will be launched later this year. The 2U ARC-Pro is expected to undergo customer testing later this year and is planned to be fully available on the market in the first half of 2027.
