The U.S. Department of Justice has filed an unusual lawsuit, seeking to prevent Alaska from certifying the winner of its upcoming U.S. Senate election in the event that the current Republican Senator Dan Sullivan (Dan Sullivan) loses the race.

A lawsuit filed on Thursday claimed that another Republican candidate, Daniel Sullivan ( Daniel Sullivan ), was also listed on the ballots for this election, which could lead to confusion among voters.

The complaint states: "If Alaska certifies any election results that have been tainted due to Daniel J. Sullivan being listed on the ballot – and as the defendant Burch (Alaska's Chief Election Officer Carol Burch, Carol Beecher) has determined, his candidacy was 'aimed at confusing or misleading voters and undermining the fairness of the ballots' – then the state and its officials will be unable to fulfill their obligation to protect the integrity of elections."

Both candidates with the surname Sullivan are competing against the Democratic nominee, Mary Pelトラ ( Mary Peltola ).

The election in Alaska is one of several Senate races across the country that could determine whether the Republican Party can maintain its slim majority in the U.S. Senate.
