South Korean chip manufacturer SK Hynix announced its third-quarter results on Wednesday, with performance from July to September far exceeding expectations.
The following is a comparison of Hynix' third-quarter performance (SK) with that of LSEG SmartEstimates. The latter assigns greater weight to the forecasts of analysts whose predictions are more stable and accurate:
- Revenue: 104.62 trillion Korean won (78.86 billion US dollars), with an expected figure of 98.34 trillion Korean won.
- Operating profit: 83.33 trillion Korean won, with an expected value of 76.72 trillion Korean won.
Revenues increased by 327.9% compared to the same period last year, and operating profits grew by 632.1% year-on-year.
Compared to the previous quarter, revenue increased by 31.9%, and operating profit soared by 37.6%.
SK Hynix is one of the key suppliers of NVIDIA's high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips and has become one of the biggest beneficiaries in the global AI infrastructure construction. As technology companies increase their investment in data centers and advanced processors, the company has reaped significant benefits.
In August, SK Hynix announced plans to repurchase and cancel its own shares worth 40 trillion Korean won, while also raising the shareholder return target to over 50% of the cumulative free cash flow from 2025 to 2027.
Last week, SK Hynix announced that its US subsidiary, Solidigm, would cease evaluating potential pre-IPO financings and IPO plans due to market volatility and stock price trends.
The company stated that it will continue to assess the timing, scale of investment, and financing options in order to support the growth of Solidigm and enhance shareholder value.
