If Bitcoin ( BTC ) is set aside for sports betting, a fundamental question arises: should the budget be fixed in digital currency or in US dollars? Maintaining the same amount of BTC does not guarantee the same value in US dollars when exchange rates change. The logic of a budget in US dollars is different: its indicated value remains constant, while the corresponding amount of Bitcoin changes. The difference between the two begins even before the funds leave the wallet.
In the portfolio tracking update released by BitPay in July 2026, the total portfolio valuation was presented, along with details broken down by wallet and token. These views address different questions: The currency balances record the quantity of tokens; the dollar valuation, on the other hand, is the conversion of that quantity at a certain price. Even if the balance of BTC remains unchanged, price fluctuations alone can cause the dollar amount to change. Looking at either view alone does not provide any information regarding how much money someone has decided to spend on gambling.
First, decide what to measure with the budget.
Bitcoin can be used as a contribution asset, while the US dollar can still be used as the currency for measuring budgets. This currency of measurement is known as the unit of account. It is important to clarify this so that 'the same amount' has a clear meaning.
If the budget is defined in BTC, the limit is the amount of the selected currency; if it is defined in dollars, the limit is the selected dollar amount. At a certain exchange rate, these two figures may be equal, but they will later diverge. It is useful to record both as long as the budget clearly specifies which measurement method takes precedence.
In the sports betting of Lucky Rebel, even if the source of funds is Bitcoin, the personal disposable amount can still be defined in US dollars. The currency used for budgeting and the actual assets transferred out are two different options. The total balance of the wallet may contain funds for other purposes, so it should not be automatically regarded as a betting fund pool.
The amount of a single bet is the capital invested in a particular sports betting event. The first thing to define is the overall betting limit. Waiting for the valuation of the currency to be transferred out, in this case dollars, to change does not necessarily mean that a decision has been made to alter this limit or the size of a single bet.
Record valuation time
The calculation is very simple: multiply the number of Bitcoins by the exchange rate denominated in US dollars, and the result is the dollar valuation at that exchange rate. Conversely, by dividing a certain amount of US dollars by the same exchange rate, you can obtain the corresponding quantity of BTC.

Valuation requires not only price but also timestamps. Comparing the current dollar value of a wallet with earlier values is essentially putting observations from two different time points side by side. Unless the number of coins is the same, the difference may reflect both changes in price and changes in the quantity held.
Therefore, a useful record should include the BTC quantity, reference currency, exchange rate, and valuation time together. The original budget amount and its indicated currency should be saved in separate fields. This way, when updating the current value, the difference between the "allocated amount" and the "currency value calculated based on the recorded exchange rate" can be preserved.
The numerical value obtained from this is merely a planning figure. It does not guarantee the exchange rate that will be available at the time of conversion, nor does it determine how much the gambling company will record. Any handling fees, as well as the difference between the reference exchange rate and the actual conversion rate, should be recorded in the transaction details along with the amount transferred.
Set a clear deadline for the assignment.
Amounts also require time boundaries. A budget for a season and a limit for a weekend, even when both are expressed in dollars, represent different commitments. Writing down the deadlines helps to distinguish between continuous funding allocations and a new decision to allocate funds.
A fixed deposit amount is also different from a fixed period budget. Reusing the same quantity of BTC for different deposits indicates a consistent transfer scale, but it does not represent the total allocation for the entire season. It is necessary to distinguish between each individual transfer amount and the overall quota in the records. In this way, "unchanged" refers to the preset upper limit, and not just the amount of repeated payments.
This bankroll management guide separates the gambling fund pool from essential living expenses and discusses how to set up the fund pool by season, year, or other cycles. If applied to cryptocurrency funding, one additional detail needs to be considered: what currency is used to define the fund pool. The duration specifies when the allocation applies; the unit of measurement clarifies exactly how much is fixed.
The start and end dates of this period, along with the indicated amount, should be recorded. In this way, subsequent transfers can be categorized into the corresponding period and will not be considered as automatic renewals. It is not necessary for the allocation date to be the same as the transfer date if the funds have already been reserved before being sent.
What will a dollar-pegged system change?
Stablecoins will change the valuation issue, but the reference currency still needs to be clear. According to the explanation of stablecoins by Ledger, these tokens are intended to track another asset, usually the US dollar. Therefore, tokens pegged to the US dollar aim to follow the value of the US dollar, rather than the market price of Bitcoin. However, this design does not guarantee that their market price will always equal the target value.
Anchoring will not fix the value of all currencies. If a budget is denominated in pounds, but funds are held in tokens pegged to dollars, then the conversion will still depend on the exchange rate between dollars and pounds. Even if the tokens maintain their dollar target, their valuation in pounds may still change.
Before comparing two budget figures, first confirm whether they refer to the same amount of coins or the same reference currency amount over the same period. Also, retain the valuation timestamps. By doing so, you can distinguish between the actual changes in the betting quota and the results calculated using different prices for the reserved coins.
