Alex Stamos, former head of security at Meta, stated that handing over highly sensitive personal financial login information to AI's proxy applications is "completely crazy." He noted that banks are facing an increasing number of interactions that are authorized by customers but are clearly initiated by robots; Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase CEO also recently warned that consumers should be aware of the risks if they allow third parties AI to access their financial accounts on their behalf.

According to the former security director of Meta, it is simply absurd to regard a personal AI agent as the “key holder” in charge of one’s own financial life.

Alex Stamos, who currently serves as the Chief Security Officer at the programming startup Cognition, stated that people are allowing AI proxy applications to access highly sensitive personal data, a practice that is "completely crazy."

Stamos recently mentioned in an episode of “Big Technology Podcast” that people are integrating proxy tools such as Muse (associated with Meta) and Instinct (associated with Spear Street Technology) into their own complete 1Password password management systems, and then asking these tools to “help me with my finances” or “help me file my taxes.”

Stamos said that this situation puts banks in a dilemma: they are now having to deal with an increasing number of robotic activities authorized by customers.

He said, "What the banks are discussing now is that they have confirmed that all of these interactions with their systems are authentic in terms of authentication – so it’s not the case that credentials have been stolen – but it’s clear that robots are conducting these interactions."

He also said, "This is also why Instinct is useful, because it actually bypasses the security measures set up by these companies, which are intended to prevent you from doing what you are doing now – that is, to allow your robots to have access to the most important parts of your life."

Stamos stated that the result is a kind of "crazy tension": on one side, financial institutions are trying to "prevent automated access" to their systems, while on the other side, there are consumers who hope to make their lives easier by handing over login information and personal data to "a company that has only been established for six months."

The representative of Instinct did not immediately respond to requests for comments on Stamos' remarks. A spokesperson for Meta refused to comment.

Meta previously stated in a blog post that Muse, launched in September, runs on its own cloud-based computers, and therefore other proxies cannot access it.

In recent weeks, some bank CEOs have issued warnings regarding consumers granting third-party AI agents access to their financial account information.

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon ( Jamie Dimon ) stated during a financial report conference call in October: “If people are using them, they should be aware of the risks involved.” He also said that responsibility is shifting away from the banks, and there is also a risk of data being “misused.”

Damon stated that JPMorgan Chase is developing its own proxy tools for customers, while also preventing external proxies from entering the banking system.
